Our Approach
Our cyber security consultancy for local government organisation began with a comprehensive security audit of all Microsoft cloud systems, designed to uncover any vulnerabilities and define the scope of the required improvements. Following the audit, we conducted strategic meetings with council stakeholders to present our findings, establish a clear approach, and agree on the implementation process.
Key Security Measures Implemented
Policy Consolidation
We streamlined the council’s Conditional Access policies, creating a robust security framework that ensures staff can work without unnecessary restrictions. This included the introduction of new policies to monitor risky activities, enforce Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA), set country-based access restrictions, and establish stringent device compliance checks.
Intune Deployment
The deployment of Microsoft Intune involved setting up new compliance and account management policies, particularly for users with administrative access. We also focused on configuring antivirus and firewall settings tailored to Defender, implementing a local administrator password solution, and setting up application control policies to prevent data exfiltration.
Defender Rollout
ToraGuard successfully rolled out Microsoft Defender for Endpoint across all 600+ devices, ensuring comprehensive protection against malware and secure device management.
Enhanced Access Controls
We implemented custom controls to restrict access to administrative portals exclusively to authorised administrators, effectively blocking any non-administrative access.
Ongoing Consultancy and Support
In addition to the rollout, the council was provided with dedicated security consultancy hours, which have been utilised for a range of tasks, including application troubleshooting, personal mobile device enrolment, and the configuration of device-specific policies and mail flow rules.
We also initiated user awareness training, enrolling all 600 users in a programme that includes phishing simulations to improve cyber vigilance.
Results Of Cyber Security Consultancy For Local Government
ToraGuard successfully completed the Intune deployment within four weeks, covering both laptops and mobile devices for over 600 staff members. With Intune fully operational, the council now enjoys complete control and enhanced security across all devices.
All devices are now encrypted, protected by Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, and safeguarded from malicious software, with strict controls ensuring that only authorised personnel can download and install applications.
Ongoing efforts include enhancing cyber awareness among council staff through targeted training and simulations. Additionally, the council continues to benefit from access to our expert security consultants for ongoing technical guidance and best-practice advice.
